Our Impact

Making a Difference, One Home at a Time

Since 1999, Mahi Pai Foundation has been quietly getting on with the mahi. Here are the numbers - and the stories - behind that work.

Every Statistic is a Whānau

Behind every number is a family - real people in real homes in the Bay of Plenty whose lives are different because of the mahi we do together.

A Kitchen That Changed Everything

Home Repair Programme

"Today marks a year since we put our new kitchen in. Honestly, Mahi Pai helped us see our value again. That we are worthy of good things. We sat in a pretty dark space for a while almost consumed by it but you paved the way out for us. Our whare has life, light and happiness again. There's laughter and kids baking every weekend. Big whānau meals. Togetherness again. Thank you from the bottom of my heart, I'll forever be grateful for what you did for us."

A young whānau in the Bay of Plenty had been living with a leaking roof for two winters. Mould was spreading, the kids were getting sick, and the landlord was unresponsive. They did not know where to turn.

After being referred to Mahi Pai Foundation, our team carried out a full roof assessment and coordinated repairs within weeks. A volunteer team - including a registered roofer who donated his time - replaced the damaged sections, fitted new flashing, and cleared the gutters.

"We finally feel safe in our home. The kids' health has improved so much since the repairs. We are so grateful to the Mahi Pai team."

First-Time Home Owners

Home Ownership Programme

After years of renting and feeling stuck, a Māori whānau in the Bay of Plenty connected with our Home Ownership Programme. They had the will to own a home but did not know where to start.

Over 18 months, our team worked alongside them to develop a savings plan, navigate the First Home Grant application, and connect them with our legal partners at Abernethy Broatch McFetridge Law. They are now homeowners.
