A Kitchen That Changed Everything

Home Repair Programme

"Today marks a year since we put our new kitchen in. Honestly, Mahi Pai helped us see our value again. That we are worthy of good things. We sat in a pretty dark space for a while almost consumed by it but you paved the way out for us. Our whare has life, light and happiness again. There's laughter and kids baking every weekend. A Kitchen That Found a New Home

Critical Home Repairs Programme

Mahi Pai Foundation are currently working on a critical home repairs programme covering the BOP area, with projects from Cape Runaway all the way up the coast to Tauranga, and including the inland communities of Kawerau, Edgecumbe, Te Teko and Rotorua.

Mahi Pai Foundation recently accepted a donation of a kitchen that Arvida Copper Crest had removed from one of their residential homes. Here is the story of where that kitchen was repurposed.

After being told by their landlord that the home they rented was going on the open market for sale, Dan and his partner decided they had had enough of renting and needed to figure out their next move for their blended whanau. They chose to build a home on their whanau Papakainga land at Pukehina.

With help from their close-knit whanau and friends, they were able to gather enough funds and labour to bring their new open-plan 70m2 home to lockup stage - a real blessing. However, they still needed the essential bathroom ware and kitchen.

The call went out through the grapevine and quickly reached the Mahi Pai Foundation team. Not only were MPF able to supply a kitchen bench, cabinets, drawers and pantry, they were also able to provide a range hood, cooktop and towel rail - all donated by Arvida Copper Crest through their relationship with the Doing Good Foundation and Mahi Pai Foundation. The kitchen was collected from storage in Te Puke and shipped to the Pukehina home with MPF's help, where it was placed ready to be fixed into place and all pipework connected.

A Brand New Bathroom

What Donations Help Fund

Repair Materials

Timber, roofing iron, insulation, hardware - the materials needed to carry out repairs that make homes safe.

Skilled Trades Support

Where volunteer tradespeople are not available, donations help us bring in qualified professionals to complete critical work.

Materials Transport and Storage

Moving donated materials from where they are to where they are needed - and storing them safely until they can be redistributed.
